Actor Vikram’s Video Song on Chennai Floods: Spirit of Chennai

Actor Vikram, along with many cine stars across India, has made a video song on the recent Chennai Floods: Spirit of Chennai. The song is embedded above. Though the visuals are good and the song is nice, I wish it was shorter than 11:00 minutes. This is his message through the song, “இங்கு மழை பெய்து மனிதம் வளர்ந்திருக்கிறது. ஒரு கார்கில், ஒரு பூகம்பம், ஒரு சுனாமி, ஒரு மழை வெள்ளம் – இதுல எதாவது ஒண்ணு வந்தா தான் நாம ஒண்ணு சேரணுமா?” That’s why it rains. That’s why there are calamities. That’s why there are challenges in life. Otherwise, there will not be much of a scope for ‘humanity’ to ‘grow’. Don’t you think? Destination Infinity

2015: Top 10 Tamil Songs of the Year

**If you don’t have much time, just listen to Songs #2 or #1. Both are incredible** Here’s a yearly top 10/best Tamil songs list for 2015, selected and rated by me. The songs below were composed for movies released during the last one year. Please note that I did not listen to all Tamil songs released in 2015, and hence have included only those songs that caught my interest and were made popular by TV/radio channels, websites, etc. So this is not a comprehensive list. The rating is my own, based on my musical tastes and preferences – I did not conduct any voting or go through any top music…

Song of the Week: Gerua (Dilwale)

Gerua is the latest song that’s on my loop. It’s from the movie Dilwale. The music has been composed by Pritam and the singers are Arjit Singh and Antara Mitra. This song has a touch of ’90s, predictably, given the theme of the movie. Initially, I didn’t like this song much, but after listening to it for a couple of times, it went straight into my loop. I wish I could like the other songs in this movie — among them Tukur Tukur is good. Destination Infinity

Song of the Week: Agar Tum Saath Ho (Tamasha)

‘Agar Tum Saath Ho’ is a beautiful melodious song from the bollywood movie Tamasha. Music for this album has been composed by A. R. Rehman, and Alka Yagnik is the singer. If you like melodious songs, you’ll love this one. Initially, I thought the entire song should have been sung by Alka, but then I noticed that the contrast between the two voices beautifies Alka’s voice even more! Of course, you might already be familiar with the more popular & peppy ‘Matargashi’ song from the same movie which is topping all charts. That’s also a great song. But between a melodious and a peppy song, I always prefer the former…

#Song of the Week: Unakkena Venum Sollu (Yennai Arindhaal)

I love the way Director Gowtham Menon brings the best out of Music Director Harris Jeyaraj in his movies. This song, Unakkena venum sollu from Yennai Arindhaal is another classy song sung by Benny Dayal and Mahathi. This slow and melodious song will easily capture your hearts. The lovely picturization is another great plus! Don’t miss 🙂 I also like Mazhai vara poghuthe… from the same movie – a slightly peppier number and equally good. Destination Infinity

#Song of the Week: Kaara Aata Kaara (O Kadhal Kanmani)

‘Kaara Aata Kaara’ is the song from the latest (yet to be released) Mani Rathnam’s movie: O Kadhal Kanmani. The music for this movie has been composed by A. R. Rehman. I fell in love with the song once I saw the trailer (who will not?). The song doesn’t live up to the expectations set in the trailer as it is too slow at times and doesn’t maintain the rhythm in the first half, but it catches up in the second half and leaves us happy. I am sure I’ll start liking even the first half more if I listen to it more (no time!!).

#Song of the Week: Isai meeti… (Isai)

Isai meeti… is a song from the Tamil movie Isai. Imagine director SJ Suryah directing a movie called ‘Isai’ and composing the music himself. That’s exactly what has happened, and look what a gem of a song we’ve got! Chinmayi’s voice is too good, but the composition of the song is also too good – don’t you think? Super song 🙂 SJ Suryah has a bright future as a music director 😉 Destination Infinity

#Song of the Week: Sooraj Dooba Hain Yaaron (Roy)

Sooraj Dooba Hain Yaaron is a Hindi song from the Bollywood movie Roy. This song has been sung by Arjit Singh and Aditi Singh Sharma. The music has been composed by Amaal Mallik. This is a relatively faster/peppy song that didn’t allow me to go to the next song when I listened to it for the first time – sure shot indicator that it’s good! I love the beats and the tempo set by this song. Destination Infinity

#Song of the Week: Danga Maari Oodhari (Anegan)

‘Danga Maari Oodhari’ is a Tamil “Kuthu” Song from the movie Anegan. The music has been composed by Harris Jeyaraj, and the song has been sung by Dhanush, Marana Gaana Viji and Naveen Madhav. Tamil Kuthu pattu is a famous genre both inside and outside TN. This one is slower but very catchy 🙂 You need to try hard not to dance for these songs! Destination Infinity
